This sourdough raisin bread brings together the natural tang of sourdough with the sweetness of raisins, creating a perfect balance of flavors. The subtle warmth of cinnamon enhances the flavor, making each bite feel comforting and nostalgic.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup active sourdough starter
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 3 1/2 cups bread flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix the sourdough starter, water, honey, and flour until a rough dough forms. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- After resting, add salt and knead the dough until smooth (around 7-10 minutes).
- Fold in the raisins and cinnamon (if using) until evenly distributed.
- Cover the dough and let it rise at room temperature for 3-4 hours or until it doubles in size.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it proof for another 1-2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the dough has proofed, bake the loaf for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Allow it to cool completely before slicing.
