Mexican Avocado Tomatillo Spicy Salsa

This Mexican Avocado Tomatillo Spicy Salsa is a vibrant, creamy, and spicy addition to your favorite dishes. Packed with the tangy brightness of tomatillos, the creaminess of avocado, and a spicy kick from serrano peppers, this salsa is perfect for tacos, nachos, grilled meats, or even as a dip with tortilla chips.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium tomatillos (husked and rinsed)
  • 1 ripe avocado (peeled and pitted)
  • 2 serrano peppers (adjust to taste for heat)
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 small white onion (roughly chopped)
  • ½ cup fresh cilantro (packed)
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Roast the tomatillos and serrano peppers:
    • Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium heat.
    • Place the tomatillos and serrano peppers in the skillet, turning occasionally until they are slightly charred and softened (about 5–7 minutes).
  2. Blend the ingredients:
    • Add the roasted tomatillos and serrano peppers to a blender or food processor.
    • Add the avocado, garlic, onion, cilantro, lime juice, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Blend until smooth:
    • Pulse a few times, then blend until you achieve a smooth, creamy texture. If the salsa is too thick, add a tablespoon of water at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. Taste and adjust:
    • Taste the salsa and adjust the salt or lime juice as needed.
  5. Serve:
    • Pour the salsa into a serving bowl and garnish with a few cilantro leaves. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

This salsa pairs wonderfully with crispy tortilla chips or as a topping for tacos, grilled chicken, or roasted vegetables. For a milder version, substitute serrano peppers with jalapeños or use fewer peppers.
