Few desserts bring as much joy as a rich, moist chocolate cake layered with velvety smooth frosting. This indulgent treat is perfect for celebrations, special gatherings, or simply satisfying your sweet tooth.
Ingredients
For the Cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
For the Creamy Frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
Instructions
1. Prepare the Cake:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
Slowly pour in the boiling water while mixing on low speed. The batter will be thin, but that’s normal!
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
2. Make the Frosting:
Beat the butter in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, beating on low speed.
Pour in the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Increase the speed and beat until smooth and creamy.
3. Assemble the Cake:
Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top.
Add the second layer and frost the top and sides evenly.
For an extra touch, garnish with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or fresh berries!
4. Serve and Enjoy!
Let the cake set for about 30 minutes before slicing. Enjoy this heavenly dessert with a glass of milk or a hot cup of coffee!
