Homemade Dinner Rolls

Homemade Dinner Rolls are soft, fluffy, and buttery—perfect for pairing with any meal from hearty stews to holiday feasts. There’s something truly comforting about the smell of fresh bread wafting from the oven. With simple ingredients and a bit of patience, you can make golden, tender rolls that melt in your mouth and steal the spotlight at the dinner table.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)

  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 large egg

  • 3¼ cups all-purpose flour (plus more as needed)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)


Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast
    In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.

  2. Mix the Dough
    Add softened butter, egg, salt, and 3 cups of flour. Mix until a sticky dough forms. Gradually add the remaining flour as needed until the dough pulls away from the bowl but is still soft.

  3. Knead
    Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. First Rise
    Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size.

  5. Shape Rolls
    Punch down the dough and divide it into 12–15 equal pieces. Shape into balls and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

  6. Second Rise
    Cover and let rolls rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.

  7. Bake
    Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 18–22 minutes, or until golden brown.

  8. Brush & Serve
    Immediately brush warm rolls with melted butter. Serve fresh and enjoy!
