Grilled ham and cheese sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of bread (your choice, such as sourdough or whole wheat)
  • 2 slices of cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or your preference)
  • 2-3 slices of ham
  • 1-2 tablespoons of butter
  • Optional: mustard or mayonnaise

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bread:
    • If using mustard or mayonnaise, spread a thin layer on one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Place a slice of cheese on one slice of bread.
    • Layer the ham on top of the cheese.
    • Add the second slice of cheese on top of the ham.
    • Place the second slice of bread on top, with the spread side facing the filling.
  3. Butter the Bread:
    • Spread butter on the outer sides of both slices of bread.
  4. Grill the Sandwich:
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
    • Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side. Press down slightly with a spatula to ensure even grilling.
  5. Serve:
    • Remove from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing in half. Serve warm.
