Instructions
1. Activate the yeast:
In a small bowl, stir the yeast and 1 tsp of sugar into the warm milk. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.2. Mix the dough:
In a large bowl, combine the egg, melted butter, sugar, and activated yeast mixture. Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir until a soft dough forms. It should be sticky but workable.3. Roll out the dough:
Place the dough between two sheets of parchment paper. Roll into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.4. Add the filling:
Spread softened butter over the dough. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and sprinkle evenly over the butter.5. Roll and cut:
Using the parchment to help, roll the dough tightly from the long side. Slice into 1 ½ inch rolls using a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss.6. Let rise:
Place the rolls in a greased 8 or 9-inch baking dish. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place for about 30–45 minutes.7. Bake:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 22–26 minutes or until lightly golden.8. Make the icing:
Beat cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Mix in powdered sugar and vanilla, adding milk as needed for a pourable consistency.9. Ice and serve:
Spread icing over warm rolls and enjoy immediately! -
