Classic Sandwich Spread Recipe

Ingredients:

  1. Mayonnaise Base:
    • 1 cup mayonnaise (can be substituted with Greek yogurt for a healthier version)
  2. Flavor Enhancers:
    • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
    • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
    • 1 teaspoon honey (optional for a hint of sweetness)
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  3. Vegetable Mix-Ins:
    • 1/4 cup finely chopped celery
    • 1/4 cup finely chopped pickles (sweet or dill, based on preference)
    • 1/4 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
    • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
    • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
  4. Protein Options (choose one or a mix):
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped cooked chicken
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped ham
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped boiled eggs
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped canned tuna (drained)
  5. Optional Extras:
    • 1 tablespoon capers (chopped)
    • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 teaspoon hot sauce

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Base:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, and honey (if using). Mix until smooth.
  2. Season the Base:
    • Add salt and pepper to taste. Adjust seasoning according to preference.
  3. Mix in Vegetables:
    • Add the finely chopped celery, pickles, red bell pepper, red onion, and parsley to the bowl. Stir to combine evenly with the mayonnaise mixture.
  4. Add Protein:
    • Choose your preferred protein option(s) and add to the mixture. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  5. Incorporate Optional Extras:
    • If using capers, Worcestershire sauce, or hot sauce, add them now and mix well.
  6. Chill the Spread:
    • Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve the spread on your favorite bread, rolls, or crackers. It can also be used as a filling for wraps or as a dip for vegetables.

  • Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
