Air Fryer Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or lamb

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 tbsp flour or cornstarch (for thickening)

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the mashed potato topping:

  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • ¼ cup milk (or cream for richer flavor)

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for cheesy topping)

  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes:

    • Boil potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (about 15 minutes).

    • Drain, mash with butter and milk until creamy, then season with salt. Set aside.

  2. Cook the filling:

    • Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.

    • Add onion and garlic, sauté until fragrant.

    • Add ground beef/lamb and cook until browned.

    • Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, peas, carrots, and broth.

    • Sprinkle in flour/cornstarch to thicken. Let simmer until the mixture is saucy but not watery.

  3. Assemble in an air fryer-safe dish:

    • Spoon the meat filling into the bottom of the dish.

    • Spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.

    • Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese if desired.

  4. Air fry:

    • Place the dish in your air fryer.

    • Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes, until the top is golden and slightly crispy.

  5. Serve:

    • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

    • Garnish with fresh parsley if you like.

Tips:

  • Use lamb for a traditional shepherd’s pie, or beef for a cottage pie version.

  • For extra crispiness, brush the mashed potato top lightly with melted butter before air frying.

  • Individual ramekins also work perfectly for personal-sized pies!
