Chinese Pepper Steak with Onion is a vibrant, savory dish that highlights tender slices of beef, fresh bell peppers, and onions, all stir-fried in a rich, umami-packed sauce.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb beef sirloin, sliced thinly
- 2 large bell peppers (red, green, or a mix), sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- ½ cup beef broth or water
- Optional: sesame oil, green onions for garnish
Instructions:
- Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and black pepper. Toss the sliced beef in this mixture and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Sauté the Vegetables: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry the bell peppers and onions for 3-4 minutes until they are slightly tender but still crisp. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the Beef: In the same pan, heat the remaining oil. Add the marinated beef, cooking it in batches if necessary, and stir-fry until browned and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes.
- Combine Everything: Return the cooked vegetables to the pan. Pour in the beef broth and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Serve: Drizzle with a touch of sesame oil if desired, and garnish with green onions. Serve hot with steamed rice.
