Low Carb Chaffle Burger

A Low Carb Chaffle Burger is a delicious and keto-friendly twist on the classic burger. Instead of a traditional bun, this recipe uses chaffles—cheese and egg waffles—as the bun, which keeps the carb count low while adding a unique texture and flavor.

Ingredients:

For the Chaffles:

  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or cheddar for a sharper flavor)
  • 1 tbsp almond flour (optional, for extra structure)
  • 1 tsp baking powder (optional, for fluffiness)
  • Seasonings (like garlic powder, onion powder, or Italian seasoning)

For the Burger:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cheese slices (optional, for a cheeseburger)
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Pickles
  • Onion slices
  • Low-carb condiments (like sugar-free ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.)

Instructions:

1. Make the Chaffles:

  • Preheat your waffle maker.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the egg until well-beaten.
  • Mix in the shredded cheese, almond flour (if using), baking powder, and seasonings.
  • Spray the waffle maker with non-stick spray.
  • Pour half of the chaffle mixture into the waffle maker and cook for about 3-5 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  • Repeat with the remaining mixture to make the second chaffle.

2. Prepare the Burger Patties:

  • Season the ground beef with salt and pepper, then form it into patties.
  • Cook the patties on a preheated grill or skillet over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  • If making cheeseburgers, add a slice of cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking, allowing it to melt.

3. Assemble the Burger:

  • Place one chaffle on a plate as the bottom bun.
  • Add a lettuce leaf, then place the cooked burger patty on top.
  • Layer with tomato slices, pickles, onions, and any other toppings you like.
  • Drizzle with your choice of low-carb condiments.
  • Top with the second chaffle.

4. Serve:

  • Serve your Low Carb Chaffle Burger with a side of salad, keto fries, or any other low-carb side dish.
