Gluten Free Mozzarella Sticks

Posted on August 17, 2024

Gluten-free mozzarella sticks are a delicious treat that anyone can enjoy, whether you have a gluten sensitivity or simply love crispy, cheesy snacks. Here’s a recipe that’s easy to make and perfect for satisfying your cravings.

Gluten-Free Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients:

  • 12 sticks of mozzarella cheese (string cheese works well)
  • 1 cup gluten-free breadcrumbs (you can use store-bought or make your own from gluten-free bread)
  • 1/2 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Cooking oil (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cheese:
    • Unwrap the mozzarella sticks and cut them in half if you’d like shorter sticks. Place them on a plate or baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This helps the cheese hold its shape during frying.
  2. Set Up the Breading Station:
    • In one shallow dish, place the gluten-free flour.
    • In a second shallow dish, beat the eggs.
    • In a third shallow dish, combine the gluten-free breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Bread the Mozzarella Sticks:
    • Take a frozen mozzarella stick and roll it in the flour, ensuring it’s fully coated.
    • Dip it into the beaten eggs, letting any excess drip off.
    • Finally, roll it in the seasoned breadcrumbs, pressing gently to make sure the coating sticks well.
    • Repeat this process for all the mozzarella sticks, and then freeze them again for at least 15 minutes to help the breading adhere.
  4. Fry the Mozzarella Sticks:
    • Heat the cooking oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
    • Carefully place a few mozzarella sticks into the hot oil and fry them for about 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pot.
    • Remove the mozzarella sticks with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  5. Serve:
    • Serve your gluten-free mozzarella sticks hot with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Enjoy your crunchy, gooey mozzarella sticks! The combination of crispy gluten-free breading and melty cheese makes these a crowd-pleasing appetizer or snack.
