Easy Cheddar Cheese Rolls

Freshly baked, cheesy, and irresistibly soft, these Easy Cheddar Cheese Rolls are the perfect treat for any occasion. Whether you’re serving them alongside soup, using them for sandwiches, or enjoying them warm from the oven, the buttery dough and melted cheddar create a combination that’s impossible to resist. Best of all, this recipe is simple enough for beginner bakers yet tasty enough to impress your guests.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 ¼ tsp (1 packet) instant yeast

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F / 43°C)

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)

  • 1 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.

  2. Add warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. Shape the rolls: Punch down the dough and knead in 1 cup of cheddar cheese. Divide into 12 equal pieces, shape into balls, and place on a greased baking sheet or in a greased baking dish.

  6. Second rise: Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Sprinkle remaining cheddar over the rolls and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown.

  8. Finish: Brush warm rolls with melted butter and serve.

These rolls are best enjoyed fresh from the oven, but you can store them in an airtight container for up to 3 days—or reheat for that just-baked taste.

I can also give you a no-knead overnight version of these cheddar rolls if you want an even easier method.
