There’s something truly comforting about the smell of fresh bread wafting from the oven. With simple ingredients and a bit of patience, you can make golden, tender rolls that melt in your mouth and steal the spotlight at the dinner table.
Ingredients:
-
1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
-
2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
-
2 tbsp granulated sugar
-
3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
-
1 large egg
-
3¼ cups all-purpose flour (plus more as needed)
-
1 tsp salt
-
2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions:
-
Activate the Yeast
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy. -
Mix the Dough
Add softened butter, egg, salt, and 3 cups of flour. Mix until a sticky dough forms. Gradually add the remaining flour as needed until the dough pulls away from the bowl but is still soft. -
Knead
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. -
First Rise
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until doubled in size. -
Shape Rolls
Punch down the dough and divide it into 12–15 equal pieces. Shape into balls and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. -
Second Rise
Cover and let rolls rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy. -
Bake
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 18–22 minutes, or until golden brown. -
Brush & Serve
Immediately brush warm rolls with melted butter. Serve fresh and enjoy!
Tip: These rolls freeze well—just reheat gently before serving!
