1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
-
1 tsp baking powder
-
1/2 tsp baking soda
-
1/4 tsp salt
-
1/2 cup vegetable oil
-
1/2 cup milk
-
2 large eggs
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1/2 cup hot water or hot coffee (for deeper flavor)
-
Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round or square cake pan.
-
Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
-
Add wet ingredients: Add oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat until smooth.

Add hot water: Slowly stir in the hot water or coffee. Batter will be thin—this is normal.
-
Bake: Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
-
Cool & Serve: Let the cake cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack. Frost or dust with powdered sugar if desired.
-
Optional Quick Frosting:
Mix 1/2 cup softened butter, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1–2 tbsp milk, and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract until fluffy.
