Homemade Bread Recipe

oft, golden, and made with love—just like grandma used to bake.

There’s nothing quite like the comforting aroma of homemade bread filling your kitchen. With just a handful of simple ingredients, you can create a warm, fluffy loaf that’s perfect for toasting, sandwiches, or simply slathered in butter. Whether you’re a seasoned baker or a first-timer, this easy recipe will guide you to bakery-worthy results right from your own oven.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)

  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or melted butter

  • 1 ½ tsp salt

  • Instructions:

    1. Activate the Yeast:
In a large bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.

    2. Make the Dough:
Add oil and salt. Stir in flour gradually until a soft dough forms.

    3. Knead the Dough:
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

    4. First Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

    5. Shape the Loaf:
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.

    6. Second Rise:
Cover loosely and let rise again for about 30–45 minutes, until the dough rises about 1 inch above the rim of the pan.

    7. Bake:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes or until the top is golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

    8. Cool:
Remove from pan and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

      Tips:

      • For a softer crust, brush the top with melted butter right after baking.

      • Store leftovers in an airtight bag for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
