- 2 lbs (900g) potatoes, peeled and cubed

Step 1: Prepare the Mashed Potatoes
- Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water until fork-tender (about 15-20 minutes).
- Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper. Stir in cheese if using. Set aside.
Step 2: Cook the Meat Filling
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions, garlic, and carrots. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
- Add ground lamb (or beef) and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Stir in tomato paste, flour, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Pour in beef broth, bring to a simmer, and cook until thickened (about 5 minutes). Stir in peas and corn.
Step 3: Assemble and Bake
- Spread the meat mixture evenly in a baking dish.
- Spoon the mashed potatoes over the top and spread evenly, sealing the edges. Use a fork to create a textured surface.
