Here’s a delicious recipe for Honey Garlic Beef Ribs! These ribs are tender, flavorful, and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2–3 lbs (900g–1.4kg) beef ribs (short ribs or back ribs work well)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for searing)
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced (optional but adds great flavor)
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1/4 cup water or beef broth (for added moisture)
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional, for a slight kick)
- Sesame seeds and chopped green onions for garnish
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ribs
- Pat the beef ribs dry with a paper towel.
- Season them lightly with salt and black pepper on both sides.
2. Sear the Ribs
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat.
- Sear the ribs for about 2–3 minutes per side until nicely browned. This locks in flavor.
- Remove ribs from the skillet and set aside.
3. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce
- In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium.
- Add the minced garlic and ginger, sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, water (or beef broth), and chili flakes. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
4. Cook the Ribs
- Oven Method:
- Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
- Place the seared ribs in a baking dish. Pour the honey garlic sauce over them.
- Cover tightly with foil and bake for 2.5–3 hours until the ribs are tender. Baste with sauce occasionally.
- Slow Cooker Method:
- Place the seared ribs in a slow cooker. Pour the honey garlic sauce over them.
- Cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 4–5 hours.
- Instant Pot Method:
- Place the ribs and sauce in an Instant Pot. Seal the lid and cook on manual/high pressure for 45 minutes. Allow natural release for 10 minutes before opening.
5. Caramelize (Optional)
- After cooking, brush the ribs with the sauce and broil them in the oven for 3–5 minutes to caramelize.
6. Serve
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
- Serve hot with steamed rice, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad.
