Here’s a simple and delicious way to cook a ribeye steak:
Ingredients:
- 1 ribeye steak (about 1 to 1.5 inches thick)
- Salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1-2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- Fresh rosemary or thyme (optional)
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional)
Instructions:
- Preparation:
- Remove the steak from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature.
- Pat the steak dry with paper towels. This helps it get a good sear.
- Seasoning:
- Generously season both sides of the steak with salt and freshly ground black pepper. You can also add minced garlic and fresh herbs if desired.
- Searing:
- Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over high heat until it’s very hot.
- Add the oil to the pan and let it heat until shimmering.
- Cooking:
- Place the steak in the pan and let it cook without moving it for about 4-5 minutes (for medium-rare) or until a deep brown crust forms.
- Flip the steak and cook the other side for another 3-5 minutes, depending on your desired level of doneness.
- Optional Butter Baste:
- If you like, add a couple of tablespoons of butter to the pan in the last minute of cooking. Tilt the pan and use a spoon to baste the melted butter over the steak.
- Resting:
- Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a plate for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
- Serving:
- Slice against the grain and serve. You can also drizzle with any leftover juices from the pan.
