Ingredients

For the Base:

  • 2 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 1 cup crushed graham crackers (optional for extra crunch)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Caramel Layer:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

For the Chocolate Layer:

  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegetable oil

Optional Toppings:

  • Sea salt flakes
  • Chopped nuts or toffee bits

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Base

  1. Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine crispy rice cereal and crushed graham crackers (if using).
  3. Pour melted butter over the mixture and stir until evenly coated. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.

Step 2: Make the Caramel

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, butter, and heavy cream. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts to bubble.
  2. Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Stir in sea salt.
  3. Pour the caramel evenly over the cereal base. Let it cool slightly while you prepare the chocolate layer.

Step 3: Add the Chocolate Layer

  1. Melt chocolate chips and coconut oil in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each until smooth.
  2. Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer and spread evenly.

Step 4: Chill and Set

  1. Sprinkle sea salt flakes or your choice of toppings over the chocolate layer.
  2. Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or until the layers are set.

  1. Once set, use the parchment paper to lift the bars from the pan.
