Shrimp marinara is a quick and flavorful seafood pasta dish that brings together the briny sweetness of shrimp with the vibrant, rich taste of a classic marinara sauce. It’s an elegant yet simple meal, perfect for a weeknight dinner or even a special occasion.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 12 oz pasta (spaghetti, linguine, or fettuccine)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions:
- Cook the Pasta:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving about 1/2 cup of the pasta water.
- Prepare the Shrimp:
- Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté the shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side until just cooked through and pink. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Marinara Sauce:
- In the same skillet, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using), cooking for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Combine Shrimp and Sauce:
- Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the marinara sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to combine the flavors.
- Assemble the Dish:
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing it gently in the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water to loosen it up.
- Taste and adjust seasoning, adding more salt, pepper, or red pepper flakes if needed.
- Serve:
- Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or basil and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve with lemon wedges on the side for a fresh, zesty finish.
