Caramel Apple Jam

Caramel Apple Jam is a delightful spread that brings together the crisp, sweet flavors of apples with the rich, buttery notes of caramel. It’s like enjoying a caramel apple in a jar! This jam is perfect for spreading on toast, biscuits, or even drizzling over desserts like ice cream or cheesecake.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups diced, peeled apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 package (1.75 oz) powdered fruit pectin
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the apples:
Peel and dice the apples into small pieces, about 1/4-inch cubes. Toss the diced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning and set aside.
  2. Cook the apples:
In a large pot, combine the apples, water, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook over medium heat until the apples are soft, stirring occasionally (about 10 minutes).
  3. Add the pectin and sugars:
Stir in the powdered pectin and bring the mixture to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly. Add the granulated sugar and brown sugar. Continue stirring and bring back to a full boil. Let it boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat.
  4. Add the caramel flavor:
Stir in the butter until it’s melted and fully incorporated. The butter will give the jam a rich, caramel-like flavor.
  5. Jar the jam:
Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace. Wipe the jar rims, place the lids, and tighten the rings.
  6. Process the jars:
Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes. Carefully remove and let them cool at room temperature.
  7. Store and enjoy:
Once the jars are cooled, check the seals and store in a cool, dark place. Unsealed jars should be refrigerated and used within a few weeks.

Serving Suggestion: Spread this luxurious jam on toast or biscuits, swirl it into oatmeal, or use it as a filling for pastries!
